After studying fashion at Manchester Metropolitan University, Susy Brown learnt her trade at a bespoke bag manufacturer where she developed skills across the entire bag manufacturing process. After a year of her growing passion for creating desirable, practical and stylish bags, she struck out on her own in 2012 to create the Baia brand.

While studying fashion at University, Susy found making clothing didn’t come easily to her, but found herself naturally adept at bag making, evident in her striking collection.

All Baia bags are handmade by Susy in her Yorkshire studio. The bags undergo many processes, from pattern cutting to stitching, and require a versatile skillset to create the final quality product. Each collection is made using combinations of materials, Susy loves working with leather and using suede to create a dynamic and unique colour palette.

Susy felt her real breakthrough was her Spring Summer 17 collection, where she received incredible feedback from press and customers alike.

Starting out in her mum and dad’s spare room, early success enabled Susy to expand Baia into a workshop in the picturesque village of Scissett in Yorkshire. Susy is fiercely proud of manufacturing in Britain, and believes that people are beginning to care more about the provenance of their clothing and accessories.
