Nuts for Knitwear: 3 British Knitwear Brands Every Woman Needs in Her Wardrobe

Posted by Ben Bailey on

Here at Studio British, we know a thing of two about knitwear. The UK has been manufacturing luxury knitwear for hundreds of years and to this day continues to produce the highest quality clothing which is exported all over the world. We picked pieces from three of our favourite brands in our curated winter collection and give you an insight into their history:

Johnstons of Elgin

Boasting the last vertical Mill in the UK, Johnstons of Elgin are the only producers able to completely manufacture knitwear from start to finish, under one roof. They are specialists in the rare and sought-after Cashmere, which is shorn from the belly of the Cashmere goat. Their Cashmere jumper's ribbing not only feels luxurious on the skin, but has a cowl-neck finish, which in our opinion looks fantastic.

John Smedley

Although renowned for the menswear, John Smedley has developed it's womenswear line in the last few years and produces a stunning array of garments from leisure wear to evening wear. Their merino wool skirt comes in camel or green and creates an absolutely gorgeous silhouette when paired with a roll neck.

Genevieve Sweeney

Although a relative newcomer compared to the heritage brands like John Smedley, Genevieve Sweeney has wasted no time in establishing herself as a major player in British knitwear. Using a mixture of old-fashioned techniques fused with modern shapes and colours, Genevieve makes knitwear suitable for all ages. Here we've picked a Studio British exclusive, the Rea in blue lambswool, which falls perfectly on the body.
