2017: A Great Year for British Manufacturing

Posted by Ben Bailey on

A little over a year ago, Studio British was just an idea between two friends who wanted to find a better way to shop for British-made fashion. Fast forward to today and since our ‘doors’ opened 2 months ago we’ve been overwhelmed by the demand and support for British manufacturing. We’ve exported British goods to 10 countries, filled Christmas stockings with beautiful Genevieve Sweeney socks, and kept someone warm in Cincinnati with luxury outerwear from Private White V.C.

It’s hard to put into words how it feels to see an idea grow into a fully functioning operation over the course of a year. From meeting with fantastic suppliers up and down the country, to organising photo shoots, to building our web platform, the journey has been challenging, sometimes scary and always a steep learning curve! Mistakes are made, teething problems occur and there’s always a desire to do things better.

Our mission is to take British manufacturing mainstream, and 2017 has been a great start. But we won’t rest on our laurels, there are plenty more amazing designers that we want to work with and help grow. There’s also work for us to do to convince more people of the virtues of slow fashion, understanding that changing attitudes and shopping habits is a long journey.

We can’t express enough how grateful we are to our manufacturers, our friends and most of all the people supporting the British manufacturing resurgence - you!

We hope you had a great 2017, we look forward to an exciting 2018.

Anabel and Ben
